Genuine fossilized Triceratops tooth, 1.6 cm long, 66 million years old, Cretaceous, USA

(1 customer review)

RON 199,99

Authentic fossilized tooth specimen of Triceratops (species Triceratops horridus) from the USA, approximately 66 million years old, in a plastic box. This is a blunt, rootless tooth, spat out by the dinosaur during its lifetime and replaced with a new one. It comes with a Certificate of authenticity signed by a professional geologist who appraised the specimen. An authentic dinosaur tooth, an excellent gift for any dinosaur or paleontology enthusiast!

Reptiles have teeth that are replaced many times during their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of the enamel and the long time they lived, means that fossilized teeth of mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs are common in various parts of the world.

Due to the age of the specimen, the tooth may have imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are perfectly normal and inevitable, but it is, overall, in good condition. We invite you to carefully study the product photos to identify the natural imperfections and any possible repairs to the specimen.

Description

Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsian dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 68 million years ago, in what is now North America. Its name is derived from the Greek words tri – three, kéras – horn and ōps – face and means "face with three horns".

Triceratops is one of the most well-known dinosaurs, due to its distinctive skull, with a "shield" at the back of the head and three horns in front. The skull was very large in relation to the rest of the body, reaching up to 2.5 meters. One horn was placed above the nostrils, and the other two, which reached about 1 meter each, were placed above the eyes. Early theories claim that these horns were used in combat, but according to more recent theories, they may have been used as distinctive marks of recognition, intimidation or in the mating ritual.

Triceratops It had a robust and heavy body, reaching about 7.9–9 meters long, up to 2.9–3 meters high and weighing up to 6.1–12 tons. It was a herbivorous dinosaur and had a mouth in the shape of a narrow and deep "beak", which was probably specialized for grabbing and pulling rather than biting. The teeth of Triceratops were arranged in groups called "batteries", with between 36–40 rows of teeth on each side of the jaw. Each row had between 3–5 teeth, resulting in a total of 432–800 teeth. Only a quarter of these teeth were actively used, the rest being spare, as they changed their teeth throughout their lives.

Triceratops It is among the last ceratopsian dinosaurs to appear before the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.

Small but beautiful 🙂 I still need to add more different species, not just carnivores :), I didn't receive that card with the qr code, but that's okay, I'll definitely order more :)) and if you have the card, send it to me with the next order 🙂 if you only have it. I think I can move on to the mentions with the next order, right? I like that they fit nicely with each fossil, you had a good idea with them.

Hello! We are very glad that you like it! Triceratops teeth were small, but very interesting and very numerous – a Triceratops could have up to 800 in its mouth, organized in the form of impressive lateral batteries with which it wreaked havoc on vegetation! We apologize for missing the card, but we will definitely send it to you with your next order!😊 Please mention us in the comments when placing your order. We look forward to seeing you! 🥰
