Authentic fossilized Squalicorax shark tooth, 2.8 cm length, 70 million years old, Cretaceous, Morocco

(1 customer review)

RON 24,99

Authentic fossilized Squalicorax Shark tooth specimen from Morocco, approximately 70 million years old, in a plastic box. A very old shark tooth with its serrations still sharp, from a shark that lived alongside the dinosaurs. An excellent gift for anyone passionate about sharks or paleontology!

Sharks have a very large number of teeth, in multiple rows, which are replaced many times during their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of the enamel and the long period of time they lived, means that fossilized shark teeth are common in various parts of the world.

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

Squalicorax is an extinct genus of sharks related to the Great White, the largest living predatory shark. Also known as "Crow Sharks," they lived during the Cretaceous period, 145–65 million years ago, alongside the dinosaurs. They were coastal predators, feeding on ichthyosaurs, small mosasaurs, and turtles, but they did not hesitate to scavenge or attack injured dinosaurs, as their teeth have been discovered embedded in the leg bone of a hadrosaur. Specimens of this shark group reached between 2 and 5 meters in length.

Their teeth are found mainly in Morocco, measure 2-3 cm in length, are extremely serrated, and are still sharp.

I just received this specimen and I am very pleased with the way it was packaged — with great care and even a few nice surprises in the package. The fossil looks exactly like the photos; I appreciate the fact that you included many clear and detailed images on the site. A gorgeous specimen! I also ordered a megalodon tooth 🙂 and I can’t wait for it to arrive
