Authentic fossilized Sand Tiger Shark tooth, 1.7 cm long, 50 million years old, Eocene, Morocco

RON 19,99

Authentic fossilized Sand Tiger Shark tooth specimen from Morocco, approximately 50 million years old, in a plastic box. An excellent gift for anyone passionate about sharks or paleontology!

Sharks have a vast number of teeth arranged in multiple rows, which are replaced frequently throughout their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of enamel and the extensive period they have existed, makes fossilized shark teeth commonly found across various parts of the globe.

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

Sand Tiger Shark is a species of shark that has lived since the Eocene epoch, 50 million years ago, to the present day. It is related to the Great White shark, the largest living shark, and is a marine predator, consuming mainly fish. Specimens of this group of sharks reach between 2 and 3.2 meters in length. Its dagger-shaped teeth are constantly visible, even when its mouth is closed. Like Otodus, its teeth have small cusplets on either side of the crown.

Sand Tiger Shark fossils are found mainly in Morocco, Belgium, and North America.
