Authentic fossilized hadrosaur (Edmontosaurus sp.) tooth, 1.1 cm length, 65 million years old, Cretaceous, USA

RON 159,99

Authentic fossilized Hadrosaur tooth specimen (most likely genus Edmontosaurus sp.) from the USA, approximately 65 million years old, in a plastic box. This is a worn tooth, without the root, shed by the dinosaur during its lifetime and replaced by a new one. Comes accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by a professional geologist who performed the specimen's expertise. An authentic dinosaur tooth, an excellent gift for any dinosaur or paleontology enthusiast!

Reptiles have teeth that are replaced many times throughout their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of enamel as well as the long span of time they inhabited the Earth, means that fossilized teeth of mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs are commonly found in various parts of the globe.

Due to the age of the specimen, the tooth may have imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are perfectly normal and inevitable, but it is, overall, in good condition. We invite you to carefully study the product photos to identify the natural imperfections and any possible repairs to the specimen.

Description

Hadrosaurs were herbivorous dinosaurs, members of the family Hadrosauridae, which lived mainly during the Cretaceous period, approximately 143–66 million years ago. They were large dinosaurs that could walk on either two or four legs, traveled in herds, and ate vegetation. Among the famous features of Hadrosaurs are their duck-billed snouts, as well as the possible hollow or solid crests on their heads, probably used for visual and auditory display in social contexts.

Their teeth were used to grind plants and were arranged in multiple rows that were replaced when old teeth began to wear down. Among the best-known genera of Hadrosaurs are: Edmontosaurus and Parasaurolophus.
