Authentic Mexican amber with insect inclusion, 2.3 cm diameter, 23 million years old, Miocene, Mexico

RON 179,99

Authentic Mexican amber specimen with insect and plant material inclusions, approximately 23 million years old. The specimen comes in a plastic box. Like a true time machine, this amber specimen allows its owner to look back in time to an insect preserved intact from millions of years ago!

The amber and the inclusion are authentic – the specimen has been tested under UV light, as shown in the photos (authentic amber takes on a milky blue or green color under UV light, unlike glass).

Please note that the insect measures only a few millimetres, as larger insects would have been able to free themselves from the resin before becoming trapped. Therefore, it is recommended to view the inclusion using a 30x/45x/60x magnifying loupe (the magnifier included with the box is not powerful enough). DinoShop.ro offers 30x and 60x magnifying loupes in the “Miscellaneous” category.

The specimen may have cracks and imperfections, either natural or resulting from processing, but is, overall, in very good condition. We invite you to carefully study the product photos to identify the imperfections of the specimen.

Description

Mexican amber is composed of the fossilized resin of the tree Hymenaea mexicana, an evergreen leguminous tree that formed forests in what is now the Chiapas region of southern Mexico. Mexican amber dates back 15-23 million years, during the Oligocene-Miocene epochs. The tree's resin was a defense mechanism against insects and other parasites. As a result, many insects, dust, and plant material were trapped in this resin, which hardened and first turned into copal, then fossilized and became amber, preserving all the inclusions in perfect detail.

Mexican amber is much rarer than Baltic and Dominican amber and occurs in a variety of colors, including yellow, orange, red (the color for which Mexican amber is best known), and green (the rarest).
