RON 34,99

Handmade necklace with an authentic fossilized Enchodus sp. predatory fish tooth pendant on a silver-colored metal chain. The tooth is approximately 70 million years old and comes from Morocco. A unique opportunity to wear a special piece of jewelry with an impressive past!

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

Enchodus is a predatory fish that lived from the Late Cretaceous period, about 100 million years ago, to the end of the Eocene epoch, about 34 million years ago. It was a formidable marine predator, known for its very large front teeth. Specimens of this genus of fish could reach 1.5 meters in length and the front teeth could measure over 6 cm in length. Fossils of Enchodus are found in countless places around the world, from North America to North Africa.

Although it was a marine predator, its remains have been found in the stomachs of other larger predators, such as sharks, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and birds. Due to its large teeth, it has been nicknamed the "Saber-Toothed Herring" by fossil hunters.
