RON 149,99

Handmade necklace with an authentic fossilized Palaeocarcharodon orientalis shark tooth pendant on a silver-colored metal chain. The tooth is approximately 60 million years old and comes from Morocco. It comes with a Certificate of authenticity signed by a professional geologist who has appraised the specimen. A unique opportunity to wear a special piece of jewelry with an impressive past!

Due to the age of the specimen, as well as local extraction methods, the tooth may have imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) which are perfectly normal and unavoidable, but it is, overall, in good condition, with the enamel layer almost intact. We invite you to carefully study the product photos to identify the natural imperfections and possible repairs of the specimen.

Description

Palaeocarcharodon appears to have been one of the main shark genera living after the Cretaceous period, during the Paleocene epoch, following the disappearance of predatory marine reptiles. It is thought to have been related to the shark Cretoxyrhina, which lived during the Cretaceous period, but scientists are particularly studying its connection to Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) and Megalodon toothfish, the largest shark that ever lived.

Palaeocarcharodon teeth are triangular in shape, labio-lingually compressed, and exhibit irregular serrations as well as serrated lateral cusps. They can reach up to 3–6 cm in length and are highly sought after by collectors due to their exceptionally pronounced serrations.
