Authentic rare fossilized Squalicorax bassani Crow Shark tooth, 3.2 cm length, 70 million years old, Cretaceous, Morocco

RON 89,99

Authentic rare fossilized Squalicorax bassani Crow Shark tooth specimen from Morocco, approximately 70 million years old, with a floating plastic display frame included. A tooth from a rare Squalicorax shark species that lived alongside the dinosaurs. An excellent gift for anyone passionate about sharks or paleontology!

Sharks have a very large number of teeth, in multiple rows, which are replaced many times during their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of the enamel and the long period of time they lived, means that fossilized shark teeth are common in various parts of the world.

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

Squalicorax is an extinct genus of sharks related to the Great White, the largest living predatory shark. They lived during the Cretaceous period, approximately 145–65 million years ago, alongside the dinosaurs.
They were coastal predators, feeding on ichthyosaurs, small mosasaurs and turtles. They also attacked injured dinosaurs, as their teeth have been found embedded in the leg bone of a hadrosaur. Specimens of this shark group reached between 2 and 5 meters in length.

Their teeth are found mainly in Morocco, measure 2-3 cm in length, are extremely serrated, and are still sharp.
