RON 199,99

Authentic fossilized Enchodus sp. fish vertebra specimen from Morocco, approximately 70 million years old. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by a professional geologist who assessed the specimen. A fossil that dates to the time of the dinosaurs, and an excellent gift for a dinosaur or paleontology enthusiast!

Due to the age of the specimen and the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, as well as local extraction methods, the vertebra may have imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) which are perfectly normal and unavoidable, but it is, overall, in good condition. We invite you to carefully study the product photos to identify natural imperfections and possible repairs to the specimen.

Description

Enchodus is a predatory fish that lived from the Late Cretaceous period, about 100 million years ago, to the end of the Eocene epoch, about 34 million years ago. It was a formidable marine predator, known for its very large front teeth. Specimens of this genus of fish could reach 1.5 meters in length and the front teeth could measure over 6 cm in length. Fossils of Enchodus are found in countless places around the world, from North America to North Africa.

Although it was a marine predator, its remains have been found in the stomachs of other larger predators, such as sharks, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and birds. Due to its large teeth, it has been nicknamed the "Saber-Toothed Herring" by fossil hunters.
