Handmade necklace with Authentic fossilized Squalicorax shark tooth, 2.8 cm pendant length, 70 million years old, Cretaceous, Morocco

RON 34,99

Handmade necklace with an authentic fossilized Squalicorax shark tooth pendant on a silver-colored metal chain. The tooth is approximately 70 million years old and comes from Morocco. A unique opportunity to wear a special piece of jewelry with an impressive past!

Sharks have a vast number of teeth arranged in multiple rows, which are replaced frequently throughout their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of enamel and the extensive period they have existed, makes fossilized shark teeth commonly found across various parts of the globe.

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

Squalicorax is an extinct genus of sharks related to the Great White, the largest living predatory shark. Also known as "Crow Sharks," they lived during the Cretaceous period, 145–65 million years ago, alongside the dinosaurs. They were coastal predators, feeding on ichthyosaurs, small mosasaurs, and turtles, but they did not hesitate to scavenge or attack injured dinosaurs, as their teeth have been discovered embedded in the leg bone of a hadrosaur. Specimens of this shark group reached between 2 and 5 meters in length.

Their teeth are found mainly in Morocco, measure 2-3 cm in length, are extremely serrated, and are still sharp.
