Description
Turtle is a reptile characterized by the presence of a bony or cartilaginous shell that developed from its ribs and that provides it with protection. It appeared in the Late Permian period, approximately 250-290 million years ago, and is still alive today, suffering very little change over time.
Turtles can live both on land and in water, are both herbivorous and carnivorous, and reproduce by laying eggs on land. Their mouths do not have teeth, but instead have sharp (in carnivorous ones) or serrated (in herbivorous ones) lateral edges. In the past, there were species of turtles that had teeth, but these lost their teeth about 200 million years ago.
