Handmade necklace with Authentic fossilized Sand Tiger Shark tooth, 2.7 cm pendant length, 50 million years old, Eocene, Morocco

RON 34,99

Handmade necklace with an authentic fossilized Sand Tiger Shark tooth pendant on a silver-colored metal chain. The tooth is approximately 50 million years old and comes from Morocco. A unique opportunity to wear a special piece of jewelry with an impressive past!

Sharks have a very large number of teeth, in multiple rows, which are replaced many times during their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of the enamel and the long period of time they lived, means that fossilized shark teeth are common in various parts of the world.

Due to the age of the specimen and the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, as well as local extraction methods, the tooth may have imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) which are perfectly normal and unavoidable, but it is, overall, in good condition, with the enamel layer almost intact. We invite you to carefully study the product photos to identify the natural imperfections and possible repairs of the specimen.

Description

Sand Tiger Shark is a species of shark that has lived since the Eocene epoch, 50 million years ago, to the present day. It is related to the Great White shark, the largest living shark, and is a marine predator, consuming mainly fish. Specimens of this group of sharks reach between 2 and 3.2 meters in length. Its dagger-shaped teeth are constantly visible, even when its mouth is closed. Like Otodus, its teeth have small cusplets on either side of the crown.

Sand Tiger Shark fossils are found mainly in Morocco, Belgium, and North America.
