Authentic fossilized Isurus praecursor Mako Shark tooth, 2.1 cm length, 40 million years old, Eocene, Morocco

RON 44,99

Authentic fossilized Mako Shark (Isurus praecursor) tooth specimen from Morocco, approximately 40 million years old, in a plastic box. An excellent gift for anyone passionate about sharks or paleontology!

Sharks have a vast number of teeth arranged in multiple rows, which are replaced frequently throughout their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of enamel and the extensive period they have existed, makes fossilized shark teeth commonly found across various parts of the globe.

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

The Mako shark is a genus of shark that has lived from the Miocene epoch, 23 million years ago, to the present day. It is a marine predator, feeding mainly on fish, cuttlefish, and other sharks. Specimens of this shark group reach between 2.5 and 4.2 meters in length, feature 147 dagger-like teeth, and are extremely fast and athletic.

The Mako Shark is the fastest shark and one of the fastest fish on the planet. It is known for its ability to leap great heights out of the water when hunting.
