Authentic very rare fossilized Otodus sokolovi shark tooth, 7.2 cm length, 42 million years old, Eocene, Morocco

RON 549,99

Authentic very rare fossilized Sokolovi's flight shark tooth specimen from Morocco, approximately 42 million years old. It comes with a plastic display stand and a Certificate of authenticity signed by a professional geologist who examined the specimen. A great gift for someone passionate about sharks or paleontology!

Sharks have a vast number of teeth arranged in multiple rows, which are replaced frequently throughout their lives (even weekly). This, combined with the durability of enamel and the extensive period they have existed, makes fossilized shark teeth commonly found across various parts of the globe.

Due to the age of the specimen, the fragmentary nature of the fossil deposits in Morocco, and local extraction methods, the tooth may exhibit imperfections and repaired areas (glued sections) that are completely normal and unavoidable, but it is overall in good condition, with the enamel layer nearly intact. We invite you to carefully review the product photos to identify any natural imperfections or potential repairs on the specimen.

Description

Sokolovi's flight is an extinct species of shark in the family Otodontidae which may represent a transition between species Otodus auriculatus and Otodus angustidens. It is believed to have reached up to 6 meters in length and its teeth are similar to those of Otodus obliquus, except that their edges are serrated with numerous fine serrations. Due to their rarity and impressive appearance, the teeth of Sokolovi's flight are highly sought after by collectors!
