An ancient fossil of a relatively rare fish that lived alongside dinosaurs, extracted from the famous Solnhofen limestone quarry in Germany, where the famous Archaeopteryx! Description

Ascalabos is a genus of bony fish with fins supported by bony or cartilaginous rays that articulate directly with the pectoral girdle. These fish lived during the Late Jurassic, approximately 150.8–152 million years ago, in what is now Germany. Their fossils are found in the famous Solnhofen limestone quarries, where Archaeopteryx was also discovered. The genus contains a single species, Ascalabos voithii.
